The top 10 Best Caribbean Celebrations

A submitted article by a Bahamian, who is totally in love with her home land. The proud moment when she discovered this article on USA Today’s Bahamas Junkanoo was voted #1 by the USA Today readers.
“Share the Caribbean” is our tagline and she did exactly that.

Trinidad Carnival, Barbados Crop Over and Aruba’s Soul Beach Music Festival also win

A trip to the Caribbean is memorable no matter when you go, but those lucky enough to visit during a festival will experience a slice of paradise at its liveliest. After four weeks of voting, readers of USA TODAY and 10Best have selected, through their online ballots, their 10 favorite Caribbean celebrations from the original list of nominees.

The iconic Bahamas street parade known as Junkanoo has uncertain origins, but there’s no doubt it was a favorite with our readers, who voted it to a comfortable first place finish. The festival, which takes place several times throughout the year, is marked by intricate costumes, loud music and troops of dancers shaking their hips through the streets.

Earning the second largest number of votes was none other than Carnival on the island of Trinidad, a raucous explosion of color, music and creativity just before the start of Lent each year.

A diverse assortment of celebrations — Crop Over in Barbados, the Soul Beach Music Festival in Aruba and Christmas festivities in Puerto Rico — rounded out the top 5.

The full list of winners in the ‘Best Caribbean Celebration’ contest category for 10Best Readers’ Choice is as follows:
