Spice goes Vogue Compared to Nicki Minaj

It is an interesting fact that while still being, in many ways, a genre dominated by males, dancehall has recently been illuminated by the presence and success of many females. Vanessa Bling, Shenseea, Ishawna, Tifa and quite a number of ladies have all taken turns in the Jamaican media spotlight however in more recent times only one name has consistently hit the headlines both ‘a yard and abroad’. Spice with her regular presence on local charts, music videos and on the international reality show “Desperate Housewives of Atlanta”, has been maximizing her visibility across most media platforms. This week alone saw her, after an electrifying performance at this year’s version of Reggae Sumfest, being featured on vogue.com www.vogue.com/spice.

The dancehall singer arrived on a four-poster bed, replete with satin sheets and fluffy marabou pillows, to perform her bawdy hit, “Sheet.” As she tore through her catalog of rude gal, sex-positive songs—including “Romping Shop,” her Billboard-charting duet with Vybz Kartel—she quickly ditched her pink boudoir robe for a chain-encrusted gold bustier, then kicked off her heels.

This is yet another step up the ladder for this dancehall icon, we look out for more as her career progresses.
