Jamaica breaks world record in 4x200m Relay Final IAAF World Relays 2014

Jamaica with Yohan Blake, Nickel Ashmeade, Warren Weir and Jermaine Brown clocked a world record 1.18.63 to win the 4×200 relay. USA fumbled a baton change and was disqualified. St Kitts finished second with France third.

Nicekl Ashmeade, Warren Weir, Jermaine Brown and 2011 IAAF World Championships 100m gold medallist Yohan Blake combined to win the first prize of US$50,000 and also a World record bonus of US$50,00

The previous World record of 1:18:68 was set by an all-American quartet in 1994.

In the end it needed some heroics, but the 20-year-old 4x200m World record that had been on the books in the name of the fabled Santa Monica Track Club did indeed fall, but it required an unofficial 19-flat anchor leg by Blake from a rolling start.
